Street Division

Responsibilities

The Street Maintenance Division provides Hanford residents with a crucial service - maintenance of more than 207 centerline miles of roadway and all of the curb, gutter, and sidewalk within the City's jurisdiction.

The Street Maintenance Division performs nearly 2 million square feet of fiber seals, and 30,000 square feet of deep patching, and applies more than 50,000 pounds of crack seal each fiscal year.

The City of Hanford has 50 signal-controlled intersections. Each of the signalized intersections requires maintenance to ensure the proper functioning of the computerized signal equipment. The City utilizes energy-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) signals as a means of providing a brighter light display as well as cost savings on energy usage.

Street Sweeping Program

Hanford has always taken pride in the cleanliness of our city.  Much of this "clean look" is a result of the street cleaning program. Residential streets are swept once a week and the downtown area is swept five days a week. Each year, approximately 30,000 centerline miles of streets are swept. This program also assists us in the implementation of our Storm Water Management Plan by keeping dirt and debris out of our basins and canals.
