Commercial Services

Available Services

The City of Hanford offers a variety of commercial services ranging from the following sizes:

  • 1 cubic yard (Trash, Recycle, Organics)
  • 2 cubic yards (Trash, Recycle, Organics)
  • 3 cubic yards (Trash, Recycle)
  • 4 cubic yards (Trash)
  • 6 cubic yards (Recycle)

Commercial trash collection is offered one to six days per week, Monday through Saturday, to meet the needs of your business. Each container will be provided and maintained by the city at no extra cost to the customer. Maintaining sanitary conditions in and around the container is the responsibility of the customer. Please "Bag and Tie" all garbage. City locks and bin locking bars are available for purchase to help prevent unauthorized use of the container.

Guidelines

To assure uninterrupted collection please follow these simple guidelines:

  • Bins should be accessible or out for service no later than 5 am on the day of collection.
  • Ensure that the bin(s) or enclosure(s) are free of any obstacles that may block or impair the ability to provide service to the property. This includes, but is not limited to, vehicles, low-hanging branches, and similar obstructions.
  • Bins should be placed such that a minimum of four feet is available on all sides.
  • Do not overfill the bin (lids must close). If for any reason you generate more waste than normal and need more than your scheduled service, call 559-585-2550 to schedule extra collection.
  • If a customer wishes to use their own lock to secure a bin or enclosure, three keys should be delivered to our Public Works Corp yard at 900 S 10th Avenue, prior to applying the new lock.

Commercial & Multi-Family Recycling

State Law requires the following businesses to arrange for traditional recycling and Organics recycling services:

  • Any business that generates 2 cubic yards or more of waste per week

Incorporating recycling into your refuse service is not only mandated, but it is also good for the future of our community! Contact the Refuse Department at 559-585-2550 to schedule a meeting with the Recycling Coordinator. They will help you select the best service combination for your business's specific needs.

How to Arrange for Recycling & Organic Waste Services

Current commercial customers can fill out a Refuse Change Form (PDF) and email it to the Utility Billing office or fax it to 559-582-1152. New commercial customers should indicate the size and type of bins required on your Utility Service Application (PDF). Keep in mind, if your business surpasses the threshold allowed by the state for weekly production of solid waste and you do not select recycling services, your application will be placed on hold until you are contacted by the recycling coordinator to set up the required services. If you are not sure of the best service combination (Trash/Recycle/Organics), schedule an appointment with the Recycling Coordinator at 559-585-2550.

Businesses may also donate, sell and/or make other arrangements for pick up and recycling of the materials. This includes hauling the materials yourself to recycling facilities of your choice. Self-Haul Forms (PDF) must be submitted to the Refuse department for approval.

In September 2016, Governor Brown signed into law SB 1383 establishing methane emissions reduction targets in a statewide effort to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCP) in various sectors of California’s economy. As it pertains to CalRecycle, SB 1383 establishes targets to achieve a 50% reduction in the level of the statewide disposal of organic waste from the 2014 level by 2020 and a 75% reduction by 2025. The law grants CalRecycle the regulatory authority required to achieve the organic waste disposal reduction targets and establishes an additional target that not less than 20% of currently disposed edible food is recovered for human consumption by 2025.
