Welcome to the City of Hanford Public Works Department. We are "Focused on our Community 24/7". Although you may not hear or read about the Public Works Department very often, our personnel are hard at work - in the trenches, maintaining and improving the City's infrastructure. We ensure that your trash is picked up, water is flowing from your tap, sewer lines are clear, the wastewater is treated properly, traffic signals are working, streets are driveable, City facilities are clean and useable, City vehicles maintained properly, and our parks and median strips are maintained to an aesthetically pleasing level.
The public works department is comprised of 8 separate divisions employing 111 full-time employees. All public works division offices are located at the city's corporation yard at 900 S. 10th Avenue.

The Public Works Director is responsible for the overall administrative direction of the Public Works Department.This includes the quarterly review of all management performance plans to ensure that major goals and objectives of the department are achieved. The Public Works Director is also responsible for the development and implementation of the department’s annual operational budget as well as the City’s capital improvement program.
Lou Camara is Director of Public Works for Hanford, and has over 22 years of experience in the field of Public Works for the City.Lou is a life long resident of Hanford and started his career with the City as an Assistant Civil Engineer in February 1988.Lou was promoted to his current position as Director of Public Works in May 2007. Lou received a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from California State University, Fresno and is a registered professional engineer in the state of California. Before working in the public sector, Lou worked for Tenneco West, Inc., a large land development company in Bakersfield, California.
