Sue Sorensen - Vice Mayor, District B
I love Hanford and am excited for the opportunity to serve on the City Council.
Following college, my husband and I moved to Hanford to work and raise a family. We have three married children and eight grandchildren.
In 1978 we purchased a local business and together developed it into our own dental laboratory. Years later I took the opportunity to return to college and earn my degree as a Registered Dental Hygienist. I have enjoyed working for a local dentist for the last 20 years.
During the past 35 years I have taken an active part in the community including serving as a school volunteer, coach and in a variety of youth organizations. My background experiences include 16 years as a local school board trustee, co-chair of the successful COS Bond committee, and past member of both the City of Hanford Parks & Recreation and Planning Commissions. I served on the City Council from 2008 to 2012 holding positions as Vice-Mayor and Mayor. From those experiences I have gained an understanding of local government, budgets, planning, setting goals, as well as becoming familiar with the operations of the City.
I believe my background of serving in a variety of local positions, owning a business, working as a health professional and possessing a passion for public service has prepared me for the office of City Council. I will work hard to be informed and accessible as a City Council Member.
With this knowledge and experience I look forward to serving the wonderful community of Hanford.
